Farm Emissions Calculator — GXLab

GXLab farm greenhouse gas emissions calculator — DSE-based, Scope 1/2/3, with cropping and soil carbon

Farm Emissions Calculator

Scope 1, 2 & 3 greenhouse gas accounting — DSE-based livestock input — PICCC SB-GAF / G-GAF aligned

Australian NGGI 2024 methods  ·  IPCC AR6 GWP values (CH₄ = 27, N₂O = 273)

Farm profile
1 DSE = 50 kg dry Merino ewe maintaining condition (~1 kg DM/day). Beef cow + calf ≈ 18 DSE.
Scope 1 Livestock emissions
Typical range 55–75%. Higher digestibility → lower methane conversion factor (Ym). Native pasture ≈ 55%, improved pasture ≈ 68–72%.
Scope 1 On-farm energy & soil inputs
Scope 2 Purchased electricity
Deducted from grid consumption before applying state emission factor.
Scope 3 Purchased inputs — embedded emissions
Scope 1 Cropping enterprise — mixed farming

Add each crop. Calculates soil N₂O (direct + indirect), crop residue N₂O, fuel use per ha, urea CO₂, lime CO₂, and embedded fertiliser — consistent with PICCC G-GAF Tier 1 methodology.

Soil carbon SOC change (optional)

Soil organic carbon change can offset or add to farm emissions. Enter a measured or modelled annual change. Positive values = carbon gain (sequestration). Negative values = carbon loss (emission). Use CSIRO LOOC-C or SOCRATES for modelled estimates. This figure does not form part of a formal carbon credit claim.

Area over which SOC change was measured or modelled.
Positive = sequestration. Negative = loss. Typical regenerative gains: 0.1–0.5 t C/ha/yr. Multiply by 3.67 to convert to t CO₂-e.

Methodology: Enteric CH₄ from DSE-based DMI (1 kg DM/DSE/day) × GE content (18.4 MJ/kg DM) × Ym factor adjusted for digestibility. Manure N₂O from NGGI Tier 1 N-excretion rates. Crop N₂O from NGGI Tier 1 soil N emission factors with residue N. Electricity emission factors by state from NGA Factors 2024. Scope 3 from published Australian LCA values. Sequestration rates are indicative (not certified offsets). SOC change is for indicative purposes only and does not constitute a carbon credit or certified carbon account.
